The role
THORN Lighting are recruiting for an Application Engineer – Optics to join our Design R&D department which is responsible for both Thorn and Zumtobel brands. You would maintain the optical development systems and requirements before, during and after the development stages of Luminaires on the basis of an establishing interface with Product Management, Application Team and Sales and Lighting design.
The role is based at our manufacturing site in Spennymoor, where we house our extensive design and development department. There is no doubt this technical role would be a challenge but for the right person, you would gain a life long career that shapes the very future of the lighting industry.
Main accountabilities include:
- Understanding and defining the needs of the market from optical, application and lighting design perspectives.
- Translating application and lighting design needs into a requirements specification.
- Monitoring the outcomes of the proposed results from optical design engineering studies during the development phases.
- Develop and integrate a feedback strategy for realized application solutions for launched products.
- Keeping up to date with relevant Regulations from a Lighting Design perspective, Market Insights and Trends for the Optics Team.
Your profile
What we are looking for
- A background in Lighting Design and application driven projects.
- A bachelors degree qualification in a relevant engineering field.
- Experience of working with CAD software such as Solidworks and Lighting Design Tools like Dialux / Relux.
- A confident and customer focused approach with the ability to converse with customers directly both virtually and in person.
- Strong organisational skills to be able to manage multiple complex projects in parallel.
- Able to understand and analyse large scale data gained from lighting design studies.
- The ability to easily deal with moving targets and changing priorities.
- Willingness to work in an international set up
