- Design and develop server-side applications and APIs to control and manage lighting systems efficiently.
- Implement complex algorithms and logic to optimize lighting control, energy efficiency, and user experience.
- Collaborate with embedded engineers to integrate lighting control software with sensors, switches, and lighting fixtures.
- Understand communication protocols (e.g., DALI, Zigbee, Bluetooth) to interact with lighting devices.
- Develop data storage and retrieval solutions, ensuring high performance and reliability.
- Implement data analytics and reporting features to provide insights into lighting usage and energy consumption.
- Create and maintain RESTful APIs for communication between frontend and backend systems.
- Ensure secure and efficient data transfer between user interfaces and lighting controllers.
- Implement robust security measures to protect against unauthorized access and data breaches.
- Develop user authentication and authorization systems.
- Optimize backend systems for high scalability and responsiveness, especially in environments with a large number of connected lighting devices.
- Write unit tests and perform thorough testing to identify and address software defects.
- Conduct performance testing to ensure the system can handle high load.
- Document backend code, APIs, and system architecture for reference and future maintenance.
- Collaborate with frontend developers to ensure smooth integration between frontend and backend components
- Address any issues or bugs in the software in a timely manner.
Tridonic Portugal is part of the Zumtobel Group. We are recruiting for a Backend Developer to work in our group-wide software competence centre for lighting technologies in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal. Opened in January 2019, the Software Centre currently employs +60 software engineers and continuous to grow. You will be part of a team on the edge of innovation who takes pride in bringing to the market new innovations and state of the art technology. As a Backend Developer you will design and develop server-side applications and APIs to control and manage lighting systems efficiently.
Your remit will include but not limited to:

In order to fulfil your goals, you should have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field
- Proven experience in backend development using languages such as Golang (preferred), Python, Java, C++, etc. as well as in developing cloud-based systems.
- Expertise in database management and familiarity with SQL and/or NoSQL databases
- Knowledge of API development and integration.
- Familiarity with IoT technologies and protocols.
- Experience with agile and DevOps methodologies.
- Expertise in back-end technologies including server, database, and application development using languages and frameworks such as Golang (preferred), Node.js, Python, Java, etc.
- Knowledge of database management and familiarity with SQL and/or NoSQL databases.
- Experience with IoT technologies, protocols, and cybersecurity
- Ability to think strategically and make data-driven decisions.
- Ability to deliver results in a high-pace and customer demanding environment.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
